Our First Blog Post for The Shoe Attic Boutique

Are we blogging again? I guess so!

Is it 2012 again? Because coincidentally, that’s also the year I opened The Shoe Attic.

Now, before we get too far into this, I feel like I should give you a disclaimer: I am not a writer. Grammar has never been my strong suit, I use entirely too many exclamation points, and I have never met a run-on sentence I didn’t like. But I promise I’ll try my hardest.

And honestly, maybe that’s exactly what this little corner of the internet should be. Not perfect, not overly polished, just us.

If you’re new here, hi! I’m Brittany, and I opened The Shoe Attic in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2012. What started as a little shoe store has grown, changed, survived, evolved, and taken on a personality all its own over the last 14 years.

And somewhere along the way, we became about a whole lot more than shoes.

Yes, we still LOVE a fabulous pair of shoes. Obviously. But The Shoe Attic has become a place for clothes, accessories, gifts, ridiculous little things you absolutely do not need but somehow cannot leave without, events, friendships, laughs, and a whole lot of “WAIT, you need to try this on.”

It’s also been 14 years of figuring things out as I go.

Owning a small business is weird. One minute you’re buying cute clothes and making an Instagram Reel, and the next you’re fixing a receipt printer, moving furniture, planning an event, unpacking 17 boxes, doing math you absolutely did not sign up for, and wondering how it is somehow already 6 PM.

So I thought maybe it was time to have a place to share a little more of that.

This won’t just be Shoe Attic news and updates. Of course I’ll share new arrivals, events, things happening around the shop, trends I’m loving, and probably plenty of things I think you need in your closet.

But I also want this to be a place for the stories behind the store, small-business life, Williamsburg, fashion, things I’m currently obsessed with, lessons I’ve learned (usually the hard way), and whatever else happens to be bouncing around in my head that week.

And if you know me personally, you already know there is a very good chance some animals are going to sneak their way in here too.

Basically, think of this as hanging out at the counter at The Shoe Attic, except now I get to ramble and you can’t politely wander over to the sale rack to escape me.

After 14 years, The Shoe Attic has a lot of stories to tell. And as the shop continues to grow, change, and enter new chapters, I think this might be a pretty fun place to tell them.

So whether you’ve been shopping with us since 2012, found us on vacation in Williamsburg, discovered us on Instagram, or somehow accidentally ended up here while Googling something completely unrelated…

I’m really happy you’re here.

Now let’s see if I actually remember to keep blogging.
